Choplin’s Restaurant – Watchmen of the Streets – Feasting with Neighbors

Partnering with Watchmen of the Streets – a Christian non-profit that shares faith, friendship and hope for the future with the local homeless – Choplin’s Restaurant in Cornelius was joyfully able to resume their Luke 14 Banquets this past January.

Miracles are always happening when the community works together, and the “Dinner Under the Bridge” in uptown Charlotte was quite a special one. Serving eight neighbors in need, the evening was a labor of love and an effort that restaurant owner Wes Choplin hopes will be an ongoing project once again.

“We started six years ago with the Luke 14 Banquets (referring to the Bible’s parable of the great feast), and we are working diligently to start again on a regular basis,” said Wes. “This particular evening, we served our guests with our very best china, candles, table cloths, silverware and glasses – along with a warm, hearty three-course meal.”

Besides the sharing of good food, music, fellowship and friendship were also on the menu. Many of the group served that night had never been seated at a traditional table setting – and for others, certainly not in a long time. The heartwarming experience found each guest treated with love and respect, as neighbors should be!

Choplin’s Restaurant is also a contributor to the regular food deliveries that Watchmen of the Streets makes to homeless neighbors on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

Watchmen of the Streets ministers to the homeless who live under bridges, on the streets and in homeless encampments in the woods around the Charlotte area, and throughout NC, SC and even other countries. Resources for housing, medical aid, addiction recovery, food, clothing and spiritual guidance are provided, with aid brought directly to camps, where relationships are formed and many prayers are said.

For Choplin’s and other restaurants in the Lake Norman area, it is a rewarding opportunity to make a difference and nourish souls through regular meal delivery.
