Life According to Ted Lasso

Since 2020, the Apple TV+ show, Ted Lasso, has taken audiences by storm. This series follows an American football coach, Ted Lasso, as he is hired to manage a British soccer team, AFC Richmond. Lasso is from Kansas and brings determination and optimism to the new team to help make up for his lack of knowledge in the sport. In addition, he is known for his legendary quotes, dad jokes and sense of humor. Together with a team, new friends and colleagues, Ted Lasso wins everyone over and brings the team to success. The show streamed for three years, ending in 2023. During those years, its popularity and fan love grew. Out of the episodes came inspiring stories, human connections, lots of laughter and heartfelt quotes. Many of these quotes, directly from Ted Lasso himself, have helped viewers make their lives just a little bit easier and a little bit wiser. Below, I have compiled a list of the 26 best quotes by Ted Lasso. Hopefully, these motivating messages will help you as you go through the day. I present to you life, according to Ted Lasso and his friends.

As Said By Ted Lasso:

  • “Be curious, not judgmental.”
  • “Fairy tales do not start nor do they end in the dark forest, that son of a gun always shows up smack-dab in the middle of a story. But, it will all work out. Now, it may not work out how you think it will or how you hope it does, but believe me, it will all work out exactly as it’s supposed to. Our job is to have zero expectations and just let go.
  • “Taking on a challenge is a lot like riding a horse, isn’t it? If you’re comfortable while you’re doing it, you’re probably doing it wrong.”
  • “As the man once said, the harder you work, the luckier you get.”
  • “I hope that either all of us or none of us are judged by the actions of our weakest moments, but rather by the strength we show when and if we’re ever given a second chance.”
  • “You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? It’s got a 10-second memory.”
  • “Most of the time, change is a good thing. Now, I think that’s what it’s all about. Embracing change. Being brave. Doing whatever you have to so that everyone in your life can move forward with theirs.”
  • “If the internet has taught us anything, it’s that sometimes it’s easier to speak our minds anonymously.”
  • “I feel like we fell out of the lucky tree and hit every branch on the way down, ending up in a pool of cash and Sour Patch Kids.”
  • “If you care about someone, and you got a little love in your heart, there ain’t nothing you can’t get through together.”
  • “Your body is like day-old rice. If it ain’t warmed up properly, something real bad could happen.”
  • “For me, success is not about the wins and losses. It’s about helping these young fellas be the best versions of themselves on and off the field.”
  • “You know how they say that youth is wasted on the young? Well, I say don’t let the wisdom of age be wasted on you.”
  • “Living in the moment is a gift. That’s why they call it the present.”
  • “There’s two buttons I never like to hit: that’s panic and snooze.”
  • “I disagree with the phrase ‘it’s hope that kills you.’ I think it’s lack of hope that comes and gets ya. I believe in hope. I believe in believe. Where I’m from, we’ve got a saying, a question actually. Do you believe in miracles?”
  • “She’s got some fences, alright, but you just gotta hop over ‘em.”
  • “It’s funny to think about the things in your life that can make you cry just knowing that they existed, can then become the same thing that make you cry knowing that they’re now gone. I think those things come into our lives to help us get from one place to a better one.”
  • “I’m a work in progmess.”
  • “Just listen to your gut, and on the way, down to your gut, check in with your heart. Between those two things, they’ll let you know what’s what.”

As Said By Other Characters in the Series:

  • “I lost my way for a minute, but I’m on the road back.” ~ Rebecca Welton
  • “I know we can’t fix every ache inside of us. But I shouldn’t have to pretend it’s not there either.” ~ Colin Hughes
  • “Change isn’t about trying to be perfect. Perfection sucks. Perfect is boring.” ~ Coach Beard
  • “Every disadvantage has its advantage.” ~ Rebecca Welton
  • “Don’t you dare settle for fine.” ~ Roy Kent
  • “Human beings are never gonna be perfect, Roy. The best we can do is to keep asking for help and accepting it when you can. And, if you keep on doing that, you’ll always be moving towards better.” ~ Leslie Higgins

This is just a handful of the memorable quotes from the series and, trust me, it was hard to pick the best. The words are full of advice and inspiration that can apply to anyone. As Trent Crimm, a reporter on the show once said, “if the Lasso way is wrong, it’s hard to imagine being right.”
