Nestled in the town of Sherrills Ford, NC, you’ll find the bustling destination of Little Mountain Farm & Cattle Co., nurturing a family dream and a commitment to farming and ranching that’s spreading across the country!
With Co-Owner Robbie Dye’s visionary mindset and passion for fostering community, Little Mountain Farm & Cattle Co. has welcomed almost 2,000 local consumers to taste the deliciousness — and savor the value — of their 100% pasture raised, grass-fed and grain-finished 21-Day Dry Aged USDA Angus beef since opening in January 2024. Best of all, inspiring recognition of the importance of generational farming, Robbie and his wife, Ashley, believe their young children are beginning to understand the gravity of what they are building as a family.
“It’s a story much bigger than just ourselves,” Robbie explains. “Our mission is to provide quality locally raised beef as accessible as possible while educating consumer America on where their food comes from.”
Little Mountain Farm offers access, convenience and fast, first class service to customers ordering their Angus beef, and you can currently place online orders for beef (sold frozen and vacuum sealed) and arrange local pickup, seven days a week, at The Red Barn Marketplace and Lakeside Farmers Market (who also retail their products in-store), as well as at Lake Norman Area Farmers Market in Denver, on Saturday mornings during market hours. Always forward thinking with their next project, they are also gearing up to offer home delivery and ship nationwide beginning late summer.
“Our family has a longstanding legacy of working cattle, marked by the first registered family cattle brand in Nebraska in 1913,” Robbie shares. “After years away, building careers in the corporate sector, Mom and Dad followed their hearts back to farm life. Today, our family of 11 is dedicated to serving God through stewardship of the land, and Little Mountain Farm & Cattle Co. stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving legacy and keeping farming alive.”
Besides Robbie and Ashley, that extended family includes parents Jeremy and Georgina Verzal, and Robbie’s sister, Kelsie Hove, and her husband, Mason, plus adored grandchildren Paisley, Jaxon, Levi, Ava and Lily. Agriculture is one of the few industries where family is truly a common thread, which means the world to the entire crew.
Robbie and Ashley met in high school, and after years of strong friendship, and each establishing their careers, the two formed a lifelong partnership through marriage and parenthood. As a dynamic entrepreneur with a background in advertising, Robbie heads up the farm’s business relations, sales and marketing, while Ashley manages financial and supply chain administration duties for all three family businesses. (Not to mention being the catalyst behind a smooth day-to-day operation!)
We dare you to find a more down-to-Earth story to set the tone for what’s happening at Little Mountain Farm. The story extends beyond the growing town of Sherrills Ford. Picture Robbie’s grandfather’s porch, in the beef capital of Nebraska, where Robbie was simply enjoying a homemade cheeseburger that seemed to capture his undivided attention. Intrigued by the freshness and flavor of the meat, he learned from his grandfather that the beef was from a neighboring farmer, a farm where Robbie’s dad, Jeremy, grew up working. Cue Robbie’s entrepreneurial spirit and passion for family, and that porch experience in 2022 led him to make the move from “corporate to country” leaving behind a successful career in advertising and devoting full time energy to serving Agriculture America and building the family farm.
Taking the story one step further, Robbie launched Our Farms, America’s Farm-Direct Marketplace (ourfarms.com) where consumers can shop from farms and ranches across America from the comfort of their homes. When you’re embracing the notion of farm-to-table, it’s a beautiful thing to know who grew the food you’re eating. As CEO of Our Farms, Robbie is proud to be having a national impact on the farming industry, by educating consumers on where their food comes from and creating a pathway for consumers to shop directly from farms online. This year, Robbie was awarded the “Young Agri-Food” leader of the year by the prominent National Farm Foundation for the innovation that Our Farms is bringing to Agriculture America.
“I am a strong believer that the general public desires to be more connected to their food than ever before,” Robbie shares. “They want to better understand what goes into growing it, who grew it and feel good about keeping their hard-earned dollars within the local economy.”
Positive things are ahead for Our Farms, and the continued mission of connecting consumers and farmers (including beef, produce and dairy), so stay tuned!
