Living Life Accent Prone; From Weekend Retreat to Dream Home: A Stunning Lake House Transformation

There’s nothing we love more than taking a client’s vision and watching every detail fall into place – especially when it’s a beautiful home right here at the lake!

For nearly a decade, this particular design client’s home was just a weekend getaway – but then the couple retired to Lake Norman full time. Their décor had worked well for short stays, but it felt dated and, as they explained, lacked the functionality they needed and wanted for their everyday lifestyle.

I immediately knew we wanted to create a casual modern vibe! We all agreed we wanted the outside setting – the lake, of course – to be the star, which meant not incorporating any overwhelming colors or bold prints inside.

Our clients’ initial inspiration for the space actually began during a visit to our new store in Huntersville, where they couldn’t take their eyes off a pair of stunning Rothko chairs in a beautiful shade of butterscotch. The combination of beauty and comfort sealed the deal for the chairs, launching the dream of transforming their breakfast nook into a combined game room and dining area. Avid gamers, the couple had a wonderful dining table that seated eight but wasn’t the right fit for their current gaming nights that only required cozy seating for four. So, finding the perfect sized table that blended with those amazing chairs was next on the list!

As we all know, it’s human nature that, once you update one space, you start to see how much those adjoining rooms need a refresh! So, we moved to the living room next, where our clients completely fell in love with an incredible Four Hands sofa. While it looks like a classic, stylish couch, all three seats recline, creating the perfect blend of comfort and function for their living space. I also love that its clean lines look so modern.

But, my favorite piece in the living room is the oversized marble coffee table – it is absolutely gorgeous, with a super thick marble top and modern wood base. My favorite design style has always been rustic modern, where we mix raw woods with modern lines. I think we accomplished that here at the lake, using lots of linen, raw woods, marble, leather and pretty natural textures.

Now, for what turned out to be everyone’s favorite finishing touch – the gallery wall! Incorporating family photos always makes a space feel more personal – but sometimes it feels like overkill with lots of little frames sitting around. We love organizing them in a clean, seamless gallery wall which modernizes the look, and creating the gallery in timeless black and white, versus non-cohesive colors, makes it feel more like art!

This happy project ended with clients who are pleased beyond words! They had a vision of what they really wanted all along – and loved it once they found all the elements. It just took a touch of our expertise and encouragement to pull everything together!
