Local Businesses Recap

Since the premier issue of LKN Magazine, we’ve introduced you to some amazing businesses in the area. Here’s a recap of just a few – to entice you back for a visit!

Seven Seed Soap Company

Blessing new generations with wellness, kindness, and self-care, the Samson family of Seven Seed Soap Company has always made hospitality a priority. With daughter Jennifer now at the helm, their dedication to that sense of community continues to grow. “Knowing how much of my mom’s heart has gone into the business, it means so much,” Jennifer explains. “Everything we do now had its start from my mother, and she put in many hours of commitment to our customers.” Jennifer loves hearing people’s stories about how her parents have taken care of their family’s needs over the years — generations of families who were brought up using the company’s soap. “This place is an extension of home for me,” explains Jennifer. Visit the store to find wonderful options for face care, including the Seven Seed Facial Serum, a variety of soaps, lip balms, and facial scrubs; body products including herbal deodorant, lotions, and the popular brown sugar butter scrub; a wellness category of essential oils, natural hand sanitizers and bug sprays; plus, a men’s category of oils and soaps! Seven Seed Soap Co. is located at 111 N. College Avenue in Newton, NC, 828-466-2271, or shop online at Sevenseedsoap.com.

Blu Star Grill

Experience only natural cuisine at the Blu Star Grill in Mooresville, where there’s absolutely no doubt about quality, freshness, or the origin of any ingredient on your plate. The number one focus of this popular gathering place is healthy, natural food, and as owner Nelson Bass explains, “We know where all our proteins come from, and how they are raised!” The passion behind every meal here resonates from the hands and heart of Executive Chef Zachary Jenkins. With his background that includes a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University, Chef Zach’s love for cooking is reflected in every dish. That personal feeling for the folks he serves is why you’ll always hear the staff refer to you as a “guest” and never a customer. Enjoy wild caught Alaskan salmon, wild caught mahi mahi or wild caught shrimp, and hand-pattied burgers made from grass-fed and grass-finished black Angus beef raised on small family ranches in Colorado. Many dishes are from Chef Zach’s personal recipes from childhood, others are from Carolyn – one of the owners — who grew up on a farm in South Carolina. Blu Star Grill is located at 120 Marketplace Avenue in Mooresville, NC, 704-660-5577, and online at Blustargrill.com.

Novel Taproom

Craving live music and the best craft beer around? Visit Novel Taproom in Newton. With a reputation as the area’s best small live music venue, and the chance to support local breweries, owners Jeff and Sandy Allen finally fulfilled a personal dream. “Not only do we have the best selection of craft beer in the area, but we have separated ourselves by the quality of live music we host every week,” he adds. The staff researches every beer on tap, and loves promoting lesser-known breweries in the area. “We also include many regional and national breweries,” he adds. “We have a total of 30 taps at the moment, and put up two to eight new beers every day. When our outside bar is complete, we will have a total of 46 taps.” And since nothing goes better with a good cold beer than live music, Novel Taproom offers a diverse line-up every Saturday, and on at least two or three Thursdays a month. Several of the area’s best food trucks also greets customers three to four nights a week. Gather with friends at The Novel Taproom, located at 12 N. Ashe Avenue, Newton, NC, 704-576-0603. Visit them online at Thenoveltaproom.com and on Instagram @noveltaproom for specials, food truck information, and music updates!

But only after sampling their mouth-watering burgers, pizza, and irresistible desserts! “Our food is prepared in-house, following our own recipes,” says owner Scott Gilleland. “Our popular pizza crust (deep-dish or thin) is made right here with a bag of flour – and we make that amazing crust all day long! Our pizza sauce is mixed daily and starts off with crushed tomatoes and our own blend of spices. All the fresh vegetables are cut daily, and our cheese is also ground and blended every single day.” Besides serving the best pizza in town, Scott and his staff are proud to support the community around them, a task he has been devoted to since the restaurant first opened. “I’m very proud we are able to support our local schools and churches through donations and hosting spirit nights at the restaurant,” says Scott. “We also offer discounts to EMS, police officers, and firefighters in the community, as a way of showing our appreciation.” The Untouchables is located at 6020 NC-16 S, in Denver, NC.
