Based on decades-long relationships with area architects, engineers, and suppliers, and with its strong reputation for flexibility and innovation, P.S. West Construction Co. has the expertise that makes them an unbeatable option for your next commercial project.
A dedicated family business spanning generations, P.S. West is currently under the leadership of its third president, Roy C West Jr., grandson of the original founder. The company’s dedication to excellence in construction is rare, and their promise remains that quality is never sacrificed in favor of speed or cost.
“Quality work at competitive prices is the achievement of P.S. West Construction Co.,” explains Roy. “Over our 93 years in existence, we have developed the ability to design, estimate, manage, and construct almost any building, thanks to a staff trained the best way — through experience.”
No challenge is too large or too small for the current team of 17 employees at P.S. West Construction, and the office staff proudly have over 200 years of combined experience. The field staff boasts an average of over 20 years with the firm. Clients know, with certainty, that the company throws the full weight of its team behind every project, to deliver the results you’ve come to expect from them through the years. The team shares a passion for creative designs, original solutions, and longstanding expertise in the field, as well as a respect for budgets and deadlines! From medical offices, warehouses, and restaurants, to retail space renovations, or a full commercial makeover of your space, this is the first call to make when you’re developing a construction project.
With roots that date back to January of 1930, P.S. West literally started with a mule and wagon to haul sand from Third Creek to the City of Statesville — ready to pour its sidewalks. The company of Ervin-West Construction Co., Inc. was formed by P.S. West of Statesville, NC, and Carl W. Ervin of Catawba, NC, with Mr. Ervin handling estimating while Mr. West supervised building. When Mr. Ervin left the company in 1939, Mr. West took over sole management and changed the name of the company to P.S. West Construction Co., Inc. West’s son, J. Roscoe, who graduated from then NC State College with a BS degree in Civil Engineering & Construction, helped his father run the company, and three other sons — S. Eugene, R.C., and Fred West, were active in the firm as superintendents.
In the early 1990’s Roy bought out Julian and became the sole owner, and in 2015, he added Michael (Mike) Clark and Tammy Wyatt as partners in the management of the company.
The early years of P.S. West focused on establishing the reputation that’s still recognized today: building quality buildings and lasting relationships that stand the test of time. During World War II, the firm did work for the Army Corps of Engineers at Morris Field, Camp Hoffman, Fort Bragg, Blumenthal Air Base, Camp Davis, and Fort Fisher. The firm also built housing projects during the war in Charlotte, High Point, Raleigh, Tarboro, and Jacksonville in North Carolina, Spartanburg in South Carolina, and Savannah in Georgia. Many landmarks built in and around Statesville remain in use today, including the Mitchell Community College Library, the Wachovia building (now the Griffin Insurance building), the new Post Office, and the Statesville Country Club.
“We have enjoyed many years of repeat business from the same clients, largely because of the relationships cultivated by the West Family, and our office and field staff,” says Mike. “It all boils down to a reputation of doing what we say we will do, and producing a quality product.”
“Ken Brendle, Sr. Project Manager, and the P.S. West team were professional and very detail-oriented. It was a challenging project in an older building, and their ability and commitment to find solutions made the process less stressful. They were truly ‘on our team’ from start to finish, and they were a delight to work with.” —Katy Kindred, Kindred’s Restaurant, Davidson, NC
