Then vs. Now… and Still Loving Every Second
When we launched LKN Magazine in September 2022, we never imagined just how much this journey would mean — or how many incredible people we’d meet along the way. From day one, our mission has been to celebrate life at the lake: the people, the businesses, and the stories that make this community so special.
We thought we were building a magazine… but what we really built was a community — and so many friendships we never saw coming.

Over these past three years, we’ve had the honor of spotlighting community leaders, nonprofits that are changing lives, brand-new ventures, and beloved local staples. The trust this community has placed in us is humbling. Your belief in our mission makes us work harder than ever to grow your brand, share your story, and amplify your voice.
A big part of our story starts with Forsyth Woman—the magazine I founded in Winston-Salem back in 2005, the one that started it all. This month we celebrate its 20th anniversary (!), and today it’s led by my daughter and right hand, Brooke Culler. None of these magazines would exist without her. She keeps me grounded, brings calm to my chaos, and can talk me out of a bad day like no one else. Brooke recently married the love of her life and together they’re building a thriving fitness community through Washington Park CrossFit. She’s also the best dog mom ever. (She always says she’s building community through fitness and media — and I think that sums her up perfectly.)
And I wouldn’t be here without these incredible people:
My parents, Charlie and Marianne, who support this magazine in every way imaginable — including delivering to 50+ spots every single month. They’re amazing ambassadors, and even more amazing grandparents to eight grandchildren and one very loved great-granddaughter.
Tim (aka Teej), my husband of over 40 years — the guy behind the wheel, behind the scenes, behind the playlist… and always behind me cheering me on. He will always be my #1.
Kate Shaw — our magic maker. She is such talented designer and somehow each issue we create together is better than the last. We collaborate seamlessly — which says a lot, because (ask Brooke!) I’m not the easiest. I truly credit Kate, along with the rest of our incredible team, for the success we’ve achieved in just three short years.
Martie Emory, whose writing (and heart) has shaped so many of our favorite stories. More than a writer, she’s a dear friend and devoted community supporter.
Shonda Bravinder, who says “I’ve got you” more than anyone I know — and always means it. Her loyalty has no conditions.
Barbara Minor, our tennis-loving, event-hopping retiree and one of our most loyal and enthusiastic cheerleaders. Also, on our steering committee.
Kasey Jamison, forever a part of this team, even from Australia. Her surprise summer visit (with baby Goldie, two sweet boys, and husband Rocky in tow!) was such a gift — and saying goodbye again wasn’t easy.
We’re also growing in exciting ways!
Libby Pope joined us as our newest Account Executive, and her energy and ideas are already making waves.
Ingrid Russell is our new Social Media Director, helping us elevate our presence online with creativity, heart, and a camera in hand. We can’t wait for the stories she’ll help us tell.
And while Tina Carusillo is taking a well-deserved break, her friendship and the partners she brought to our magazine continue to mean the world.
Three years in… and we’re still just getting started.
We love this community — and we can’t wait to see where the next year takes us.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Keela
