When April rolls around in a few weeks, Kathy Brown will happily celebrate one year as owner of Simply Jolene – a delightful boutique in Denver, NC that can best be described as down-to-Earth chic!
Offering unique clothing lines such as Jaded Gypsy (their biggest seller), Sweet Grace, A Rare Bird and Natural Life, there’s a welcoming, relaxed vibe at Simply Jolene where you’ll love finding selections for all ages that aren’t carried elsewhere in the area.
Kathy is confident those bold, modern styles and that carefree atmosphere are what keep customers coming back to the shop. And, by their second visit, rest assured those happy customers have already become friends.
“People love coming into Simply Jolene for the environment, and we have many customers come in just to hang out,” she adds. “We love to make new friends!”
Her mission will always be to make sure every shopper leaves feeling supremely confident with their new wardrobe selections.
“We don’t carry the generic ‘boutique’ clothing styles – each item we sell is something we hand pick, knowing our customers will love it,” Kathy shares.
She is quick to admit she favors “out there” fashion choices – a little Boho and a lot eclectic. A hairdresser for more than 35 years, Kathy is originally from Fulshear, Texas, but traveled to North Carolina frequently with her son, Kade, who is in the racecar industry. Eventually making the permanent move to Denver, NC, Kathy took the best parts of her previous career – making people feel special, beautiful and confident in their own way – and fulfilled the dream to own her own boutique.
“We started our Simply Jolene journey renting spaces at other stores to sell our favorite clothing,” she shares. “After a few years, I decided I wanted to have my own boutique.”
Simply Jolene is now conveniently located in a small, but endlessly charming, brick house next to Denver Furniture and across the street from Stacy’s Restaurant.
“I fell in love with this small brick house because it felt so ‘homey’ and like the perfect unique place to build a business,” Kathy shares.
She’s joined in the Simply Jolene adventure by Chloe Powell – who just happens to be dating her son – and who perfectly selects fashions for the younger crowd. Chloe has an eye for Boho, but with more simple styling, while Kathy’s the connoisseur of the more modern hippie chic clothing styles that happily do still appeal to all generations. The two complement each other, while covering the tastes of all age groups and broadening the boutique’s loyal customer base.
“As a small business owner, I really strive to help each individual feel confident, beautiful and comfortable in their own choices,” Kathy adds.
That always means talking and getting to know each customer on a personal level to best help them find their own unique look. These ladies are skilled at guiding shoppers in choosing outfits they might not otherwise try on and encouraging them to feel wonderful about what they’re wearing.
“The Sweet Grace line, in particular, originated in South Carolina but was a super popular brand in Texas,” Kathy explains. “When I opened the boutique here, I knew it was going to be my signature for the store. Everyone who comes in LOVES it!”
