Nestled in historic Merino Mill, the charming home décor and gift store is a popular destination for gifts all year long and all the pretty things that make gathering with friends and family a joy. You’ll find the most unique furniture and accessories for your home, including luxury candles from LKN Candle Company, entertaining pieces to enhance every celebration and sparkling ornaments to adorn that beautiful family tree.
But, it’s their transformation furniture – both pieces for sale and their custom work – that’s at the heart of Sweetbay’s mission. The store always has refurbished pieces, with a ratio of close to 2/3% refinished or “estate sale” items that were already in excellent condition. Courtney loves mixing the old and new to create an eclectic feel, and she adores finding unique, affordable furniture for clients.
“We work closely with our consigners, investing time to fix, sand, paint and embellish these pieces as needed,” she shares. “Mixing old and new works well, since the older furniture is so well built, often from reputable manufacturers. We look for features like dovetailed drawers which you just don’t find at a good price in newer furniture these days.”

For the perfect artful holiday gift, Sweetbay is hosting a Rustic Christmas Ornament Class on Thursday, November 7th, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Come out, bring a friend and make a distinctive rustic Christmas ornament with live-edge wood pieces and your favorite Christmas napkins! You’ll learn how to create beautiful ornaments for yourself, or as gifts, using either Christmas napkins you have at home or choosing from several options that will be available at the class. “We’ve sold a lot of refinished furniture since we reopened,” explains Courtney. “So, we’re now doing furniture painting classes once a month, as well as offering custom paint jobs for our clients.”
The Sweetbay staff will offer a furniture painting class on Saturday, November 16th from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. If you’ve ever wanted to turn a piece of your well-loved furniture into a stunning showpiece but felt intimidated by the process, this is the event for you! Join us for a transformative furniture painting class, and you may just launch a new creative hobby!
For the price of $30, you’ll learn all the essentials:
- Preparation: How to properly prep your furniture or other chosen piece.
- Tools: Learn types of brushes and how to make the best brush selection.
- Techniques: Discover painting methods, distressing techniques and other useful tips.
Remember to dress for some messiness as this class is hands on and perfect for anyone age 16 and older. As a bonus on the day of the class, participants will enjoy 10% off storewide – excluding consignment.
