The Give Back Boutique – Sharing, Shopping & Loving

What could be better than a local small business that provides the opportunity to donate, volunteer, consign your clothing items and even shop for fun new outfits – all for one of the best causes in the area?

The name couldn’t be more appropriate – The Give Back Boutique – and this high-fashion consignment shop in Mooresville recently celebrated its 13th anniversary! That’s more than a decade of repurposing stylish clothing (from casual to formal) plus having fun on a daily basis with a gathering of loyal customers, all with a goal of bettering the lives of those in need through the Mooresville Christian Mission.

Dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty, the mission provides skills, education and other much-needed resources to both individuals and families who are seeking to become more independent. While the mission volunteers are advocating for Lake Norman neighbors in need, a dedicated group of tireless volunteers are focused on sorting, styling and greeting shoppers at the popular Mooresville boutique.

Manager Keena Darland shares that it’s been an amazing opportunity to build a small business that actually helps the community.

“We’re so blessed to have such strong community support!” she says.

What Keena finds most inspirational about The Give Back Boutique is that the entire community gets involved – and that’s when everyone wins!

“Consignors to the boutique win because they have a place to recycle their gently used clothes and earn money for themselves and the Christian Mission,” she explains. “Shoppers win with a fun place to go for their ‘retail therapy’ at a fraction of retail prices, plus, every purchase benefits the Christian Mission. Our volunteers win because they get to help their community and, at the same time, make lifelong friendships with other volunteers and shoppers! The Christian Mission wins by receiving time, talent and treasure from the community – all through The Give Back Boutique.”

For long-time volunteer Michelle Chronister, the boutique is a welcoming community that embraces everybody who comes through the doors!

“I have been volunteering at the Give Back Boutique since before they opened,” she adds. “We make sure everybody feels welcomed and loved, and part of the reason the boutique has been so successful is because Keena is so highly loved and respected! She works tirelessly to ensure that not only is it a loving community, but also to optimize the funds going to the Christian Mission to fund all the amazing programs they offer. I got involved with the boutique during a very difficult time in my life, and God has used it to give me a sense of purpose, community and friendship.”

Besides donating, consigning and volunteering, Keena shares upcoming events that offer Lake Norman residents a chance to become more involved:

  • Attend their monthly Girls’ Night Out, held at the boutique on the second Thursday of every month.
  • A fashion show for the Newcomer’s Club is planned for October 2nd.
  • A Sip & Shop is scheduled at Trump National Golf Club in Mooresville on October 22nd.
  • The Give Back Boutique will join Bliss by the Lake for their Sip, Shop & Strut fashion show at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mooresville on November 21st.
