Love wine? Just a short drive, 40 minutes west of Winston-Salem and one hour from the Lake Norman area, you arrive in the heart of North Carolina’s premier wine country. The Yadkin Valley AVA is home to more than 100 wineries, but there’s one destination that rises above and legitimately delivers a “Napa Valley feeling,” and that place is Dynamis Estate Wines.
The Dynamis Experience
Located on a sprawling 1,500-acre estate at more than 1,600 feet above sea level – the highest vineyards in Yadkin County – Dynamis Estate Wines is more than just a winery; it is a luxurious and sensory experience! From the moment you arrive at the gate, it is clear Dynamis is special. A 2.5-mile private drive takes you up the mountain and through the natural beauty of vineyard contours until you arrive, now completely “transported,” to the Tasting Lodge. The vibe here is intimate and luxurious. The vineyard views are dreamy. A wine ambassador greets you by name and you settle into a comfortable, informative and tranquil wine-tasting experience.
Dynamis has 30 acres of gorgeous vineyards planted with Bordeaux-style varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. It has been said that “grapes like a site with a view” and nothing proves this more than vines growing on a mountain ridge. “There is something magical about the impact that elevation has on grapes,” said Vineyard Manager Joseph Geller. “We have a gentle breeze that cools and dries the vines, and daytime temps stay relatively cooler up here. All this helps preserve natural acidity and aromatic complexity in our grapes.”
Winemaking
Dynamis’ mission is to craft premium quality wines without making any compromises. Unlike some wineries in North Carolina, Dynamis makes 100% of their wines from the grapes they grow on the estate. The Dynamis winemakers Katy Kidd and Matheson Worrell employ a natural and minimalist approach in the winery, working with the fruit as it is received from the vineyard, rather than manipulating wine by adding sugar, tannins, aromas and other additions in the process. “Our wines are all about our property and express the unique terroir we have,” said Katy. “We really want people to come up here and experience that and see for themselves.”
Beyond the Wine
While Dynamis prides itself on its wine-centric approach, they understand the importance of elevating the entire wine-tasting experience through food and special events. Complementing each tasting event are locally sourced, seasonally inspired small plates, paired perfectly with your chosen wine.
Additionally, Dynamis expands their culinary offerings with special events like the Sunday Supper Series and the educational Food and Wine Pairings. While many events at Dynamis are exclusive to Wine Club Members, the monthly Sunday Supper Series is open to all guests.
As summer approaches, you can be on the lookout for Dynamis-grown peaches, pears, apples, honey and pecans. You can find charcuterie boards and other small plates that include these locally grown items. Additionally, you will be able to purchase them fresh or small plates using these delicacies in the tasting room as they become seasonally available.
Wine Club
Dynamis has a growing and coveted wine club that fosters a community of like-minded wine enthusiasts with intimate events and educational opportunities. “We want to bring our members behind the scenes and into the winery to share with them the science and art of our process,” said Matheson. By joining the wine club, you can gain premier access to their exquisite wines, a luxurious brand experience and access to exclusive events hosted throughout the year.
