Besides their well-known reputation for the freshest, most natural ingredients, Blu Star Grill in Mooresville is known for affectionately referring to their “guests” — not their customers — as that’s just how important you are to owner Nelson Bass and his talented team.
Nelson sums up their philosophy well: “We care about every meal being a great meal!”
Serving the Mooresville and Lake Norman area for the past 12 years, Blu Star Grill tempts you with amazing daily fish specials created from wild caught Alaskan salmon, wild caught mahi mahi, flounder, or wild caught shrimp. If seafood isn’t your thing, they will lure you in with hand-pattied burgers made from grass-fed and grass-finished black Angus beef that was raised on small family ranches in Colorado. Maybe you’d like to try a bison burger? That bison meat is from South Dakota, and all naturally fed, something that makes Executive Chef Zachary Jenkins proud. You can also sample free-range Canadian elk!
As Nelson also enjoys quoting, “We know where all our proteins come from, and how they are raised!”
If you’re feeling adventurous, order the Trio Burger — showcasing the finest elk, bison, and angus beef together on a freshly made bun. With fries, of course! Or, sample the Frontier Bison Burger, complete with sliced avocado, cheddar cheese, and sliced red onions.
With his background that includes a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University, Chef Zach’s enduring love for cooking is reflected in every dish on the menu at Blu Star Grill. That passion stirs his emotions for his craft, and inspires him to create the irresistible weekly specials and new, exciting menu items that enhance the restaurant’s regular offerings. Their “Tour of America” celebration is also in full swing, with featured cuisine from each different state over several designated days. (Follow them on social media @blustargrill to see the featured state!)
Setting also stands out at Blu Star Grill, and in a laid-back, relaxed atmosphere you can gather with friends or your entire family for a celebration. Besides their amazing beef and seafood options, guests can also enjoy a large assortment of fresh, organic salads and wraps. Blu Star also offers a large gluten-friendly menu, and the restaurant is highly rated on the Gluten Free North Carolina website. Chef Zach loves incorporating ingredients from special regional cultures as well. Outstanding vegetarian options are always available including black bean burgers, grilled vegetable wraps, and vegetable pasta, along with a delicious selection of additional pasta dishes including blackened shrimp Alfredo.
Experienced, friendly, and attentive servers are another staple of this popular restaurant, where expanding your culinary horizons is always a pleasure. Nelson and the Blu Star Grill team is also proud to partner with the great works of Watchmen of the Streets — offering assistance to homeless neighbors in the area. Blu Star Grill contributed more than 800 meals to Watchmen of the Streets in 2022, and continues to work with the organization to feed those in need in our community.
