Discovering Melinda Lawton: From Emmy-Nominated Art Director to Master Jeweler

Melinda Lawton’s artistic journey is as brilliant and unique as her jewelry. Initially majoring in broadcasting at the University of Florida, Melinda’s passion for art led her to switch majors, eventually earning a BA in graphic design. Her expertise in the revolutionary Quantel Paintbox computer graphics system propelled her to become the art director at WABC-TV in New York City at just 27 years old. Melinda’s career flourished in Los Angeles, where she earned two national Emmy nominations and served on the Board of Governors of the Television Academy.

Despite her success in TV and film, Melinda found a new passion in jewelry design. More than a decade ago, she left the bustling entertainment industry for Hendersonville, NC, where she opened Sweet Magnolia Gallery. Her jewelry, inspired by Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian designs, is crafted from precious and semi-precious stones and metals. Celebrities like Stevie Nicks and Carrie Underwood have worn her pieces, and her work has been featured in local and national magazines.

Melinda’s creations are more than beautiful accessories; they are symbols of strength. A customer once shared that wearing her jewelry gave them a sense of bravery. For Melinda, this is her life’s passion – to inspire women, one exquisite piece at a time.

During the pandemic, Melinda continued to innovate, adding vintage-inspired rings to her collection. Her dedication to her craft shines through each piece, crafted with inspiration from the gemstones she works with daily.

Jacqueline Bassett of Juelerye discovered Melinda and was so impressed that she drove to Hendersonville to see her pieces in person. Captivated by the artistry, Jacqueline knew she had to bring Melinda’s designs back to the Lake Norman area. Now, Juelerye proudly features Melinda Lawton Jewelry, offering exquisite, handmade pieces that blend antique inspiration with modern elegance.
