With teamwork at its heart, Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center is stronger than ever — fueled by the dedication of its staff and the vision of its leadership. Executive Director Beth McKeithan and Director of Development Amy Stevens work side by side, blending passion and purpose to build a thriving, sustainable future for the organization. “Our goal,” Amy shares, “is to ensure these much-needed services will always be here for the children who need them most.”
“Beth and I have a synergy that I would call somewhat magical,” says Amy. “We can often finish each other’s thoughts.”
Both share an unwavering commitment to the mission: supporting the investigation, prosecution, therapy, and follow-up of reported child sexual abuse and assault cases in Iredell and Alexander counties.
Beth, a Lake Norman native and certified Child Forensic Interviewer, brings years of nonprofit and child advocacy experience, including service in the Peace Corps. Amy, who first connected with Dove House at its inaugural fundraising event in 2002, has served as a volunteer, board member, and now key staff member.
Beth and Amy work tirelessly to generate investments from the community to support the important work of Dove House. “We are truly fortunate to be part of a community that responds with such generosity and compassion,” says Beth. None of it would be possible without the amazing staff, board, and multidisciplinary team — comprised of law enforcement, DSS, mental health providers, the District Attorney’s office, Guardian ad Litem, and others — meeting once a month to ensure no child falls through the cracks.
“Our team is the best in the state; they run to the darkest corners to fight for the children we serve. They are truly superheroes,” says Beth. Professionals in this field need a strong combination of skills and qualities, including empathy, communication, crisis intervention, cultural competence, knowledge of child development and relevant laws, stress management skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and self-care.
Inside its welcoming facility, children find safety, comfort, and support from advocates who greet them with warmth, snacks, and a safe space to tell their story. “Our job is to be neutral, gather facts, and reduce trauma,” Beth explains. “It’s about working together as a team to protect children.” Dove House is planning to expand its services to meet the growing needs of children in the community. Please consider donating to help support these children in crisis who so desperately need our help.
