When residents and their families think of day-to-day life at Summit Place of Mooresville, they focus on the staff’s dedication to seniors being able to live, love, and learn in the comfort of a home-like setting.
Opened in 2000, making it the oldest assisted living community in Mooresville, Summit Place originally offered 38 studio apartments and two semi-private suites.
In 2010, a secure 20-bed Memory Care unit was added, and the community will be going through another exciting change soon – this time, with a complete renovation. Phoenix Senior Living, the current management company, began upgrading systems at the beginning of 2022, and will end with a complete renovation by the end of 2023.
The company believes moving to Summit Place is just the beginning of a new life chapter for residents, and their expansion plans will build on the current mission of allowing them to live as independently as possible. While it may be the oldest assisted living community in Mooresville, Summit Place is also the smallest!
“Being small may be our greatest strength,” says Barbie Hathaway, Community Engagement Director. “Having a smaller community allows us the opportunity to form a more personal relationship with families and residents. They become part of our family, too, which means they celebrate and morn with us, as much as we do with them.”
Always an important aspect of senior living, the Summit Place Signature Memory Care Neighborhood provides a comfortable, home-like setting, while offering all the necessary modifications required to care for seniors diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Time for active reminiscing, along with incorporating relevant memorabilia and home furnishings, help simulate a nurturing, familiar environment for Memory Care residents.
With unsurpassed personal care, luxury-style accommodations, amenities such as cable, internet, laundry, meals, snacks, and still a small-town feel, Summit Place encourages residents to maintain a solid purpose in their lives, no matter what their condition or needed level of care. Staff members are not chosen solely based on their level of experience, but also on their level of love and compassion, and every person involved with senior care shares the same vision to encourage and enrich the lives of all residents.
“We offer daily activities, special events, and monthly entertainers,” explains Barbie. “Our newest activities manager, Kirby Culbreth, recently graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a Recreation Therapy degree, and she brings fresh new ideas and enthusiasm to the community.”
In addition to the obvious importance of secure physical care, Summit Place also focuses on social and emotional well-being. Other eagerly anticipated projects on the horizon include an Alzheimer’s/dementia support group, weekly church services, and the formation of a welcoming committee where current residents help new residents acclimate to their new life within the community.
