The Green Room Community Theatre – Engaging Fun, Live on Stage

If you’re looking for amazing live theatre in the Lake Norman area, get to know The Green Room Community Theatre in Newton, NC.

A non-profit organization filled with incredible creative talent, this delightful group carries on a mission designed to “entertain, educate and engage” – while having endless fun along the way!

Celebrating 37 years of live theatre, The Green Room Community Theatre proudly invites families to experience the performing arts together. It’s a perfect time to form family bonds that last a lifetime and spark creativity in your young ones! Mark your calendars now for their exciting offerings in February and March: The Lightning Thief – A Percy Jackson Musical, February 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11, and Murder on the Orient Express, March 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24.

“We believe exposure to live theatre is a life-transforming experience, and we seek to provide diverse quality programming to the community at a reasonable cost,” said Executive Director Cathy Banner. With six Main Stage productions and two smaller Black Box Theatre productions each season, families can enjoy the perks of having live theatre right here in their community and even enjoy the experience of participating in play productions together. The Main Stage productions include one all-youth show and at least one family show with roles available for all ages. Non-traditional, diverse casting is also encouraged in all Green Room Community Theatre productions.

Presentations take place at the group’s wonderful facilities at the Old Post Office Playhouse in Newton. In collaboration with the City of Newton, The Green Room Community Theatre also presents Shakespeare in the Park in the late summer and early fall, and hosts a variety of “field trip” opportunities for children during the school year. The group also offers after-school acting classes for grades K-12 each semester. Classes also include Limitless Theatre for Exceptional Actors for young adults with special needs.

The fun at The Green Room doesn’t take a summer break as there are week-long summer Shakespeare drama camps for youth and a musical theatre camp. Other classes and workshops are also often available.

An especially joyful part of The Green Room Community Theatre, a troupe of adult actors known as The Green Bean Players, presents classic fairy tales, folk stories and fables, perfect for ages kindergarten through sixth grade. They tour each summer throughout Catawba County and the surrounding areas, and the troupe is thrilled to provide a fun opportunity to attend live theatre to so many local children who might not otherwise have that experience.
