Blu Star Grill & Watchmen of the Streets – Join Us in Feeding Neighbors in Need

Greetings from Blu Star Grill in Mooresville, where we invite you to join us in donating both time and nourishment to our neighbors in need! Our labor of love continues in 2024 – as we grow our mission of donating food to the amazing mission, Watchmen of the Streets.

As members of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius, my wife, Carolyn, and I have known of Heath Burchett’s work with Watchmen of the Streets and, for the last three years, we have been providing meals for this ministry to distribute to our homeless neighbors. We are incredibly grateful that when we nudged some of our many friends in the restaurant business to join us, the answer was a resounding “Yes!”

I knew that, together, we were donating more meals as a group than I could by myself – and now, we are joined by my fellow local restauranteurs Nick Bonarrigo, owner of Mi Amiche, Stacy White at Famous Toastery, and Wes Choplin at Choplin’s Restaurant. We have four unique establishments providing high-quality restaurant meals for our homeless neighbors who are cared for by WOTS, and we are now feeding 125 to 135 people per visit. But, the need grows daily, and we are always looking for like-minded local restaurants to join our efforts!

Here are the basics:

* Deliveries are made to Watchmen of the Streets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, so participating restaurants deliver to Blu Star Grill around 4:00 p.m. on those designated days.

* Then, a volunteer transports everything to the parking lot of Choplin’s Restaurant in Cornelius, and that’s when WOTS steps in, picking up and packing food to deliver to neighbors in need in Charlotte. Interested volunteers/restaurants from Davidson or Cornelius could meet WOTS at 4:30 p.m. in Cornelius on those specific days. For participating restaurants, the cost is tax-deductible – and the benefits are priceless!

If you own a restaurant in the Lake Norman area, please consider joining our mission to supply Watchmen of the Streets with nutritious meals for those who need it most!
