The House: Putting Customer Service First!

While Trae Stone was working as a regional sales manager for a Charlotte-based company that provided service and repairs to commercial clients, he discovered a need that led him to where he is today — a happy small business owner!

In early 2022, Trae launched his own business — The House.

“While managing over 350 accounts who I saw on a quarterly basis, I found it difficult to find installers or technicians with the same passion to complete the work in a timely manner — which was what I was selling to our customers,” says Trae. “So, I started doing the work myself, and found it extremely satisfying to see happy clients, and be able to help them with tasks we did not normally provide as a company.”

Trae says he had no intention of starting a home repair business, but he had so many requests to help a realtor friend — and then “friends of friends” — who couldn’t find qualified workers who would even return their calls, much less show up for scheduled appointments.

“These were the same issues that I experienced on the commercial side. So with my previous home repair experience, and my commercial experience, I decided to start the business to fill a need,” Trae explains. He has lived all over the country, primarily on the east coast, and for the past 20-plus years in Charlotte, so he knows the area well.

Trae’s inspiration is simple, but pivotal to a successful business, and truly helping others!

“I have a passion to provide the lost art of SERVICE in whatever it is I’m doing. As business owners, of course we need to make money, but I believe if that is your only motivation, you are in the wrong business!” says Trae. “You need to care about people, quality work, and providing great customer service.”

Trae works frequently with realtors and home owners preparing to put a house on the market, and his favorite projects are those that include finished carpentry. He typically works alone on small jobs, but occasionally enlists help on larger projects. Typical tasks might include replacing doors and locks, painting, installing ceiling fans, general carpentry, garage doors, drywall, light fixtures, decks, exterior upgrades, and replacing plumbing fixtures.

“I recently had the opportunity to do quite a bit of work for a few homeowners, and it is really gratifying when the work is completed and you can step back and look at the before-and-after photos,” he adds. “The best compliment is a client who is happy with your work, and will call you back for another project!”

Trae also offers sage advice: When you’re searching for a service provider, find someone who is easy to work with, is fully insured, and one who can provide references upon request. His personal requirements are, of course, the best customer service — which you can always find with The House!
