As a faith-based ministry, The Community Pregnancy Center of Lake Norman believes that steadfast faith is what it takes to believe in the unexpected – and to embrace the way the Lord has provided such amazing support for their mission.
Co-founder, Jean Mims, has served in the ministry for nearly 38 years and shares what distinguishes the center from other resources a young woman may have.
“We exist only through support from local churches, businesses and individuals,” explains Jean. “We receive no funding from the government, but we are blessed that three fundraising events each year (including their banquet in May that exceeded their fundraising goals!) are successful enough to provide help, hope and resources to women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy.”
The center’s relationship with a client typically begins with a pregnancy test and free ultrasound – the important tool that first introduces a mom to her baby, and may be the exact moment she chooses to parent. Clients always find team members to be friendly, educated and nonjudgmental.
Once a mother-to-be embraces her role, the pregnancy center also offers the HOPE Program – a year-long support initiative with monthly group meetings and ties to an incentive program where new mothers can obtain much-needed baby items.
“Our goal is to offer a hand up, not a hand-out,” says Jean. “Each HOPE Program meeting is hosted by a local church group that provides dinner and a time of devotion for our clients. We walk beside them every step of the way! Of course, the best thing about being involved is interacting with the precious babies!”
The center also offers adoption information for moms who may need to consider this as a parenting plan. They are not an adoption agency, nor do they coordinate adoptions, but information on this loving option allows a birth mother the opportunity to plan her baby’s family and future.
New to the Pregnancy Center – and welcomed with open arms and much praise – is a Medical Mobile Unit (MMU), which was donated during the Covid pandemic. A local Huntersville couple contacted the center, expressing a heartfelt desire to donate a unit in their area.
“Since we were their local Pregnancy Center, we were the recipients of this generous gift,” says Jean. “In addition to our two current locations in Mooresville and Huntersville, this MMU will act as a third location!”
Having the mobile unit will allow the center to expand services into the community and increase the chance to offer free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. After dedicating the unit on April 1st, 2023, the group recently completed construction on a garage for storing the MMU with logistics and more firm schedules for the mobile unit set to be finalized over the summer.
“While our hope is to empower moms to choose parenting, and we don’t perform or offer referrals for abortions, we do offer a healing journey called Forgiven and Set Free for clients who may have had an abortion in the past,” adds Jean.
Above all, the caring team at the Community Pregnancy Center of Lake Norman is always there to help! Contact them to discuss your personal situation, ask questions or schedule an appointment. Their free pregnancy services are available for same-day appointments when available.
