Lake Norman Catering: Growing a Business … Two at a Time!

In his own words, Chef Alexander of Lake Norman Catering reminds us that “when one door closes, sometimes three more open!”

Standing strong during the pandemic, the local full-service catering and event coordination company made a quick move to take over Queens Landing Marina in May of 2020, which meant taking over and upgrading the 3,000-square-foot commercial kitchen, changing the the Boat Menu, and taking the marina to the next level with fine dining cruises. Even with Chef Alexander out for over four months with two major surgeries, his dedicated Culinary and Field Team still orchestrated 275 catering events by November! Then, more change arrived in mid-November 2022, when the Marina was purchased by an outside buyer, and the catering business and dinner boats had to relocate. Still, the entire team stepped up and did 80 holiday catering events in the first three weeks of December!

“It only took 24 hours to move everything to our back-up commercial kitchen, but we still had a 1,300-square-foot office, showroom, and supply storage at Langtree,” Chef Alexander explains. But this is a business owner who is savvy, resourceful, and always thinking ahead!

Now, with an even more exciting — and quickly expanding — catering business, Chef Alexander and his team have acquired a 4,000-square-foot facility at the Talbert Pointe Business Park in Mooresville. The future is bright, and there’s a new business on the horizon.

“With 4,000-square-feet, we have designated room for a new mini showroom, wedding tastings, and plenty of storage for our future merger with a large, full-service (but yet to be named!) Charlotte-based wedding planning and full wedding event rental company. And, there will also still be wonderful space for yet another new venture,” says Chef Alexander. “The merger actually came about after the wedding planning company asked us to redesign a current building they own, as an event center in the new business district in South End Charlotte.

It was clearly a perfect match! The new space will also house the Lake Norman management office of Architectural Design Build Firm, focusing on architecture, construction, and 3D design projects for select, discerning clients. So far this year the design business has already signed five new clients.
