Super Bowl Sunday – February 11, 2024

If your team is playing or not, Super Bowl Sunday is an iconic American social gathering that transcends traditional definitions of a sporting event. It has evolved into a cultural phenomenon, celebrated by millions of people across the country, regardless of their level of interest in football. Each year, we gather, hoping that the following Monday was a day off of school and work. If your team is playing, you are super excited to watch the game! If not, you are probably more excited about the food, drinks and social time.

As food takes center stage at most of these gatherings, it does not have to blow your diet. Hopefully, you have not already forgotten about those healthy 2024 resolutions!

5 Tips for Super Bowl Success:

  • Do not go to your Super Bowl party hungry. Have a balanced snack or protein shake before the party starts.
  • If you choose to drink alcohol, for every alcoholic beverage you enjoy, also drink a glass of water. This will better prepare you for that alarm clock on Monday morning. Or, try a mocktail instead.
  • Do not hang out by the food table. Get a plate of your favorites and move on.
  • Make a healthy dish to share so that you know there is at least ONE thing to eat that won’t pack on the empty calories.
  • Be mindful of portion sizes. For example, one portion of wings is usually 3-4, and one serving of queso dip is about two tablespoons.

4 Simple Snacks for Kids and Adults:

  • Popcorn – Cooked in a skillet with olive or coconut oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. Top with your favorite seasonings like cinnamon or cayenne pepper depending on what flavor you like. The best way to mix it is with your own clean hands.
  • Trail Mix: Cheerios, sunflower seeds, almonds, peanuts, cashews, dried cranberries, pistachios and dark chocolate chips.
  • Veggies and hummus or guacamole.
  • Fruit Tray with Peanut Butter Yogurt Dip: 1/4 cup organic peanut butter, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
