Nestled in the heart of Lincolnton, North Carolina is a cherished institution that stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of family, hard work and dedication. For more than six decades, the family owned Carolina Furniture Mart has been a cornerstone of the community. “We’ve served more than three generations of families with quality furniture and unparalleled service,” said Owner Bud Boyles.

Boyles has spent a lifetime in the furniture business. He got his start when he was just 18 years old. The youngest of 10 siblings, Bud grew up on a farm in Lincoln County. He spent 12 years learning the business from the original owner of Carolina Furniture Mart before venturing out on his own. “I had a store in Hickory, known then as the Furniture Capital of the World, but Lincolnton has always been home,” Boyles said.

He eventually bought the Carolina Furniture Mart from the original owner’s grandson. Today, at 82 years old, he resides just a quarter of a mile from his childhood home. Bud and his wife, Pat, still pour their heart and soul into the business, working tirelessly six days a week. Their passion for helping people and their love for the furniture industry are the driving forces behind their enduring success.

Carolina Furniture Mart boasts an impressive 80,000-square-foot showroom, offering a diverse selection of furniture with more than 70 lines to choose from. One of its distinguishing features is its collection of high-end design accent pieces at bargain prices. Unlike many other furniture stores, Carolina Furniture Mart prides itself on its ability to deliver quality products without the hassle of lengthy waiting periods.

Longtime clients David and Phyllis McConnell say the customer service is only part of the reason they keep coming back. “Carolina Furniture Mart is all about family,” said David. “They have the best prices without sacrificing quality. If they don’t have what we are looking for in the showroom, they will find it. In one of our houses, they furnished everything except the flat-screen TV.”

Carolina Furniture Mart has achieved a delicate balance, managing to stay relevant and provide contemporary styles even as it continues to embrace the good old-fashioned values that Bud Boyles used to build the company.

“They go beyond the norm to help me and my clients with their furniture needs,” said Interior Designer Gail Beaver. “I can always count on their knowledge and support in finding what I need to order for any budget. And, their delivery staff is the best. They know how to handle furniture, and you couldn’t find a more courteous group of guys.”

In an era where more people crave purpose in what they buy and where they work, Carolina Furniture Mart provides for both customers and employees. Some staff members have been with them for more than 25 years, a reflection of the nurturing and supportive work environment they have cultivated.

While other furniture retailers have struggled to maintain success, the Boyles’ family legacy continues to thrive. The Boyles’ sons, Stuart and David, now lead the family business alongside their parents. All four grandchildren have worked at the store, with one now employed full-time and another lending a hand on Saturdays.

For the Boyles family, Carolina Furniture Mart is more than just a place of business – it’s a labor of love, proof of their unwavering commitment to each other and their community.
