Always the guiding light dedicated to helping her family, friends, neighbors, and entire community, entrepreneur Michelle Brown also knows the peacefulness of keeping life orderly — or at least as much as possible!
With 20 years experience as a police officer in upstate Rochester, New York, Michelle relocated with her family to the Lake Norman area after retirement, and found herself launching a new life chapter.
“As a family, we decided that I would be the one to manage the home front here,” says Michelle. “This was also supposed to allow me time to adjust to a much slower pace of life, as a stay-home mom.”
But soon realizing her teenage daughters are now pretty self-sufficient, and feeling the need to be busy again after so many active years, Michelle has relayed a seemingly mundane task into an exciting small business — Clean Sweeps of LKN!
“Cleaning has always been therapeutic for me,” she explains. “With all this free time on my hands, I came up with the idea to start my own residential cleaning service. Living in the Lake Norman area allows me to work nearby — and after being retired four years now — I seem to have come to enjoy being my own ‘boss lady’ and making my own schedule!”
The business will be focused on areas closest to her home — Sherrill’s Ford, Terrell, Mooresville, Troutman, Denver, Cornelius, and Huntersville — and include both large and small residential cleaning jobs, deep cleaning, spring cleaning and move-in/move-out cleaning, as well as Air BNBs and short-term rentals.
“I pride myself on being honest and truthful, and I’m also a bit of a perfectionist, at least that’s what I’ve been told quite often!” shares Michelle. “I do have this philosophy: What’s the use of doing something halfway, when you’ll have to return to do it the right way?”
Known for working methodically and thoroughly in everything she does, Michelle strongly believes a person’s home and their belongings should always feel safe.
“That’s what sets me apart from other cleaning companies,” she says. “Not only my attention to detail — but my integrity.” The goal of Clean Sweeps of LKN will always remain the same: Provide reliable services while making sure clients know this is a totally professional company they can trust.
As the business grows, Michelle would like to offer First Responders and military personnel a discount on their residential cleaning services.
“At the height of my career, I was a mother of five children myself, and my husband and I worked long hours, which included every weekend and lots of overtime,” she explains. “As a family, we worked it out together on ‘cleaning day’ which was pretty much the least busy day of that particular week. Covid and staff shortages are still causing folks to work under extreme demands these days. People of all careers — and especially law enforcement, dispatchers, EMTs, and fire fighters, are working tirelessly.”
Michelle has a personal goal of helping customers who may only have one day off each week, clean their homes.
“I would love to allow them more free time for their families. or for them to have a true ‘R’ day (we refer to an R day as our rest day!) With my law enforcement background, I also hope to provide an element of trust, integrity, and safety. I not only want to appeal to First Responders, but also typical clients who are entrusting their home, belongings, and treasures to an outsider.”
The enormous level of professionalism and comfort Michelle is building is sure to be welcomed in the Lake Norman community, and Clean Sweeps of LKN will soon offer a booking site with an availability schedule.
