The Publisher’s Perspective; March 2025

Spring has always been my favorite season—it’s a time of renewal, fresh starts, and longer days filled with sunshine. I can hardly wait to get back to my outdoor morning walks and talks with my baby girl. We started this tradition last year—combining exercise with a morning meeting—and it’s become one of the highlights of my day. I’m also looking forward to spending time in the yard with my hubby; there’s no place he’d rather be than working outdoors. There’s just something about fresh air and a little hard work that makes everything feel brighter.

At the top of my list this season are two of my favorite events. First up, the 4th annual Woman on the Move Conference in Winston-Salem—a day filled with inspiration, learning, and connection. This month, we are thrilled to welcome Lakeside Pointe to our advertising family. This beautiful community in Sherrills Ford is a must-see—check out their story on page 20. Our cover story features WHIP Radio, an iconic part of the community. Turn to page 28 to learn how you can tune in from anywhere!

We’re also excited to introduce Zen Psychiatric, now open in Mooresville, offering an alternative treatment for those struggling with treatment-resistant depression. Mental health touches us all, so if you know someone who could benefit from this, please share the article—it could change a life. You can learn more on page 34.

One of my favorite pages this month features a heartfelt poem by my friend Vivian Blackmon, written for her cardiologist, Dr. Johnathan Fisher. You won’t want to miss The Sunset of Life on page 76.

And finally, I’m thrilled to share the story of one of my favorite artists, Elijah Kell, who is marking a remarkable milestone—celebrating 10 years in the industry while also turning 20! Yes, you read that right. Turn to page 40 to discover his incredible journey and the passion that has fueled his success.

As always, thank you for reading and for supporting our advertising partners—it truly makes a difference when you let them know you found them in LKN Magazine.

All the best,
Keela

One Year Later: How Tourism Continues to be Essential to High-Country NC Counties Hurricane Helene Recovery

One year ago, as Western North Carolina prepared for Thanksgiving 2024, communities throughout the High Country were still reeling from Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact in late September. My family, friends, and neighbors faced the holiday season amid unprecedented destruction. In my 2024 article “Finding Gratitude Amidst Tragedy,” I wrote about the resilience and community spirit emerging from the rubble.
