Black Eye Surprise
Looking forward to a weekend Christian retreat
Knowing old friends and new she would meet
Thinking some mountain air would be good
And renewing fresh energy was understood
Singing and praising, They had a good time
But when she came home, there was a doubt in my mind
Well, it looked like she’d had a really bad fall
Or had she been in a “bear“ room brawl
With one eye black, and the other eye blue
I couldn’t imagine what she’d gotten into
She assured me that it wasn’t what I thought
Her close encounter was with the new car she’d just bought
Anxious to get in out of the rain, she jerked the door and it popped like a spring
Not very hard, she didn’t feel pain, but it hit her on the eyebrow like a fast-moving train
On the next trip you take, I said “make it a rule, make friends first with your new Malibu!”
All’s well that ends well, and in time gravity will do its thing
And the wonderful memories she brought home will always remain!

My Friends
(Marianne & Charlie)
God put you in my life for a reason it gets lonely, living alone
The joy you bring when I hear a knock on my door then a voice saying “Are you home?”
You come with a smile and treasures and happiness beyond compare. You bring a ray of sunshine and a breath of cool fresh air.
One of the greatest blessings at day’s end is the honor of calling you,
MY FRIEND.

The Weight of our Sins
It wasn’t the wood that bowed Him low,
nor the thorns that made Him weep –
not the nails that pierced His hands,
but the sins we chose to keep.
The burden He bore was not of tree,
but the weight of hearts gone cold.
He carried the lost, the bound, the blind,
and love made Him take the load.
The cross was heavy, yet light compared
to the price He chose to pay.
For it was our sins, not beams of wood,
that crushed Him on that day.
